Great vertical scrolling platformer. The winged character can only flap his wings or jump on currents but golden bonuses allow him to launch himself at progressively increasing heights. Each level also three gems which, once collected, make a bigger gem, worth an extra life, appear. Using these little resources wisely is the key to success. Dozens of levels, excellently built around these simple mechanics, and lovely pixel art.
Puddle
http://puddle-game.com/
Physics-based game with a very simple gameplay: use Left or Right (or the 360 Joypad's triggers) to tilt the entire screen and bring the fluids to the goal, without spilling too much around. Short but lovely 2D graphics. Requires .Net and Xna (included in the installation package).
I see no mention yet of the many works of Ted "Rottentater" Lauterbach. The best and more known is the atmospheric puzzle/platformer suteF but he made several more: Fetus (the more limited predecessor), Descent, Chawp... Be sure to check his Yoyogames and Gamejolt accounts since not all is listed on the site.

X.X shooters
http://www004.upp.so-net.ne.jp/x_xgameroom/
Excellent Bullet Hell shooters, heavily inspired by Cave games. I don't know about the earlier two (I've had trouble running them) but the more recent Eden's Edge, Blue Wish Resurrection Plus, and Eden's Aegis, are all great entries in their genre.
Beneath A Steel Sky

http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php#extras
Cyberpunk adventure game classic, released as freeware in 2003 and perfectly supported by ScummVM (thanks to Revolution giving the game's source code to the devs). Revolution's previous game, Lure of the Temptress, is also free. As a side note another adventure from the same era, Dreamweb, has been announced for a future freeware release, conciding with the next update of ScummVM.
Finally, another great classic: The Ur-Quan Masters
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
It's an open source version of Star Control 2 that has fused the best characteristics of both the PC and 3DO versions of the game.
